MEN SET TO REUNITE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE OLYMPICS

The Vantage Black Sticks Men are set to reunite for the first time since the Paris Olympics. This marks a new proactive approach and planning for the future, following the funding announcements made in December.

Hockey New Zealand has implemented strategic plans to enhance the team's performance and cohesion, with a focus on creating a supportive environment for athletes, whether they are based in New Zealand or competing with club teams in Europe.

The first of two training camps is scheduled to take place in Auckland, where 19 nationally-based players will come together. The split camp approach allows inclusion of a breadth of experience, featuring new talent alongside players who attended the Paris Olympics, with Scott Boyd, Charlie Morrison and Malachi Buschl in NZ and the European based camp including the likes of Kane Russell, Nic Woods and Dom Dixon who are currently based in Europe.

"We are excited to see such a dynamic mix of new and experienced players coming together," said Greg Nicol, Vantage Black Sticks Men's Head Coach  "Both Auckland and Europe camps are excellent opportunities to integrate our philosophies and core strategies, ensuring a strong sense of team unity and purpose."

In April, the second camp will be held in Hamburg, Germany, bringing together Vantage Black Sticks players who are currently engaged with their club teams overseas.

The first objective this year will be to defend the Nations Cup title in June, followed by the Oceania Cup in September, both of which are crucial events leading up to the World Cup in 2026.

“We have had to look towards different ways of doing things with tighter resourcing, and we are confident that these camps lay a strong foundation for the Vantage Black Sticks Men as they prepare for upcoming competitions,”  Simon Brill Acting High Performance Director.
