After two contrasting performances in their first overseas matches of the FIH Pro League that contrasted the euphoria of winning against Australia followed by the frustration of losing to China the next week. The Black Sticks Women will be looking for a more complete performance against the highly fancied team from Argentina.
Black Sticks Women’s Coach Sean Dancer said ahead of the match “We are looking forward the challenge of traveling and playing Argentina. We know that playing them away is always a tough game, with their vocal crowds. The team is determined to put out a strong performance and compete with Argentina the way we know that we can”.
The New Zealand Women have made several changes to the side that took on China and sees a core of young rising stars playing together for the first time on the international stage. Holly Pearson, Katie Doar and Olivia Shannon have all had a taste of international hockey now and will be looking forward to stamping their mark on the match for the Black Sticks Women.
Keep an eye out for the hard working defensive unit the Black Sticks team possesses which is led by vastly experiences players Sam Charlton, Rose Keddell and Ella Gunson. Don’t be surprised to see these players pushing up the field as they look to put the opposing teams defence under immense pressure.

Vantage Black Sticks Men vs Argentina. Sunday 14thApril 09:00am NZT. Coverage is on Spark Sport
The Black Sticks Men are looking to put a tough opening stretch in the FIH Pro League behind them. After a few weeks of training the team will be hoping the gap in matches is going to bring a change in fortunes in the second half of the competition.
Darren Smith has made several changes to the team that was overwhelmed by the Kookaburras attacking relentlessness and sees the return of experienced players Marcus Child and Blair Tarrant come back into the side.
Black Sticks Men’s Coach Darren Smith said ahead of the match “We are looking forward to getting over to Rosario for what will be a tough match up against an in form Argentina. They were able to get all 3 points when we met them in Auckland, and followed this up with a very competitive game against Australia and a win against Spain last weekend. They are well structured, counter with speed and tend to have a good set piece”
Young North Harbour midfielder Xavier Guy has been named to make his debut. It has been a meteoric rise for Xavier who last year was rewarded for some great play at the Ford NHL with a place in the Vantage Black Sticks Development Squad. Look out as Xavier loves to put some great passes through to set up his team mates.
Dane Lett is set to play his 50th cap for the New Zealand men. Lett has become a mountain in defence for the kiwi side and his presence in defence always has a calming influence. Lett has a booming sweep and if he can get into space look out for the long cross field ball he is capable of delivering.
