The men in Black are relatively familiar with this team having played a total of 55 matches in the history of New Zealand Hockey. The first time these two teams met was back at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics where New Zealand came away with a 7-0 win. Since then the Black Sticks have only lost twice to Canada, holding an all-time record of 41-12-2 against the North American side.

The last time these two teams met was earlier in the year in the Black Sticks first game of their Gold Coast Commonwealth Games campaign. The Vantage Black Sticks came away with a 6-2 win and eventually earned the Commonwealth Games Silver medal.

The men will be using these games as warm-ups before they head off to the 2018 Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup.
