Rising stars Xavier Guy and Olivia Shannon named U21 Player of the Year

The U21 Player of the Year is awarded to the U21 player who has been the top-performing player in the Vantage Black Sticks and the New Zealand U21 side. The recipients of the award this year is Olivia Shannon and Xavier Guy.

Olivia Shannon made her international debut and was a maintain for the Vantage Black Sticks Women since. Following on from her amazing 2018 season where she won both the Federation Cup with Iona College and then was named tournament MVP for the 2018 Ford NHL, Shannon was awarded her first national contract.

Since making her debut Shannon has gone onto amass 25 caps and scored three goals for the Black Sticks Women. She was also part of the squad that would win the Oceania Cup in Rockhampton.

Xavier Guy had an outstanding 2019 season, not only was he part of the Tiger Turf North Harbour men that won the 2019 Ford NHL, but he also made his debut for the Vantage Black Sticks. He would cap off the year by captaining the New Zealand U21 Men at the Sultan of Johor Cup.

Guy has now played two matches for the Vantage Black Sticks Men and looks to have a long bright future ahead of him.
