Falcons set to soar in Sentinel Homes Premier Hockey League

CENTRAL FALCONS WOMEN

The Central Falcons Women will be coached by Vantage Black Sticks Men’s Coach Darren Smith who will be guiding an elite women’s team for the first time since he departed as the Ireland Women’s Coach in 2016.

Former Vantage Black Sticks captain Kayla Whitelock will be looking to play herself into peak form as she continues her pursuit of a fifth Olympic Games. Whitelock will also have her sister Verity Sharland on the sideline as Assistant Coach.

Look for the Falcons to play attacking hockey as they use their quartet of Olivia Shannon, Holly Pearson, Kaitlin Cotter and Hope Ralph in the strike line. All were in tremendous form in 2020 for the Vantage Black Sticks Women before the international hockey break.

At the other end of the turf goalkeeper, Georgia Barnett made an outstanding return to the international scene in 2020, including her player of the match award in the shootout win over Great Britain in February.

The Falcons will come into the competition full of confidence with a side that features 11 players who have donned the Black Sticks shirt. This international experience will be pivotal for a team that comes from such a large catchment area.

Nick Wilson was on top of his game when he last played for the Vantage Black Sticks at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Look for Wilson to hit his stride during the competition as he seeks to impress ahead of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
